Liquor Stores & Teen ED Use

Utilizing ten years of data from two Providence hospitals, we assessed the association of neighborhood risk and the presence of liquor stores in each block group with adolescent Emergency Department utilization rates. Injuries accounted for 39% of the adolescent ED visits in Providence from 2005-2014. The neighborhood risk index was significantly associated with both injury and non-injury ED visit rates. The density of liquor stores was associated with the injury ED visit rate, but not the non-injury rate.
