Traumatic Brain Injury

Utilizing nationally representative data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System-All Injury Program for 2003-2012, we compared intentional and unintentional injury mechanisms of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in infants and examined time trends for each. The rate of TBI-related ED visits in infants increased by nearly 10% annually, primarily owing to unintentional mechanisms. Intentional TBI-related ED visits remained relatively stable over the decade.
