Install Tableau Desktop from this page to ensure you are using a version compatible with Tableau Server.

This software is available to licensed users. Users may install this software on up to 2 machines. Unlicensed users will use a free trial.

Windows Installation Instructions (click to expand)

To install on a Brown-owned computer:

On this page, click the Get Tableau for Windows button
IMPORTANT: Right click the downloaded file, and then select "Run as administrator" to install. If you do not have administrator permission on your computer, please see your IT Support Consultant for help with installation.
Accept the license terms and click install.
Click Finish.
If you are installing for the first time, click Activate with a product key, and then enter your product key.
If you are upgrading, the software should pick up your existing license key.
Uninstall older versions of Tableau Desktop.

To install on a personally-owned computer, download the version at the top of this page from Tableau.com. The version on this page is compatible with Tableau Server (an internal location to publish visualizations to share with authorized users). Be mindful, when you install software from Tableau's website, you will be prompted to update to a new version as soon as one is released, which may not be compatible with our current Tableau Server version.

Mac OS Ventura is not supported. See Tableau's technical specifications for updates to supported operating systems.

To install on a Brown-owned computer, follow the steps below OR install from the Self Service app

On this page, click the Get Tableau for MacOS button.
Double-click on the "Tableau.pkg" file that was downloaded to start the installer and accept default install options.
Click close when the installation is complete.*
If you are installing for the first time, click Activate with a product key, and then enter your product key.

If you are upgrading, the software should pick up your existing license key.
Uninstall older versions of Tableau Desktop.

*If you encounter a prompt that states "Tableau.pkg cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software", follow these steps to proceed with installing Tableau:

Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General
Click "Allow" for Tableau to be installed
