Home Use of Brown's Microsoft Software

Faculty and Staff Home Use Guidelines

Brown faculty and staff who are covered under the Microsoft EES are licensed to use Microsoft Office (Windows and Macintosh versions) and Windows 10 for Education to perform Brown-related activities on their personal computers.  (Hospital-based faculty and staff are not eligible.)

Microsoft Office 365 can be used on personal Mac, Windows, Android, iOS, and Windows phone devices and is downloadable from Brown's Software Catalog. Alternatively, Brown faculty and staff may use Microsoft Office at home for unlimited purposes by purchasing a home-use version of Office  for $9.95 from Microsoft. Faculty and staff must enter their "@brown.edu" address and the Office Program Code. More details about discounted versions of Office are available here

Although CIS does not recommend using Windows 10 at this time, computers are now shipping with the Windows 10 Professional or Windows 10 Home operating systems. Since the Education version provides similar features to Brown's Enterprise version with enhanced security, Brown faculty and staff who work at home may want to take advantage of the available upgrade to Windows 10 for Education.  Request your Windows 10 for Education upgrade from your Departmental IT Support Professional, or buy your work-at-home copy of Windows 10 for Education for $9.75 here.

Software installed on personal computers must be removed if a faculty or staff member leaves the University or sells their computer.

If you have questions about Brown's Microsoft EES, email Software_Services or call 863-HELP (4357).
