Christopher Powell, Assistant Vice President
As leader of the department, Chris directs campus-wide sustainability efforts as Chair of Brown’s Strategic Sustainability Planning and Advisory Council as well as for implementing the 2020 energy-related GHG reduction plan and related goals. Chris leads a team including a sustainability manager, student and academic engagement coordinator, 14 interns and 2 energy engineers and oversees all energy efficiency investments across campus. Additionally, Chris is chairman of the Rhode Island Energy Efficiency and Resource Management Council (EERMC).
Jessica Berry, Director of Sustainable Initiatives
Jess manages large sustainability projects on campus including the implementation of compost in our dining halls, developing and coordinating a green labs initiative, and the development and implementation of the Departmental Sustainability Program. Jess can be found mountain biking, alpine touring, or at the at the dog park with her dog Denali.
Patrick Cusick, Energy Engineer
Patrick Cusick is an energy engineer with a background in instrumentation and process control. He identifies energy waste on campus by reviewing systems and formulating automated internet of things (IoT) analytics. Patrick coordinates utility rebate programs, and he provides consultation to new construction projects regarding energy efficiency. Patrick loves to kayak with his daughter and ride his motorcycle.
Richard Kasper, Energy Engineer
Richard Kasper is an energy engineer with a professional license (PE) in mechanical engineering. He identifies conservation opportunities on campus, and he initiates energy projects that are executed by Operations staff and outside vendors. Rich provides the trades staff with training classes on how to manage equipment efficiently, and the impact of energy conservation modifications to building systems. Rich is fluent in French, guitar, singing, and baking.
Erin Donnellan, Academic and Student Engagement Coordinator
Erin manages the office’s intern program and all student facing programs and events including Brown Unplugged, Clean Break, and Earth Week. Erin also works to connect Facilities with classes and academic programs on campus, and she supports the office’s energy programs. Erin enjoys singing, graphic design, and relaxing with a good book. She can also be found on the basketball court, hiking in the woods, and volunteering with the service dog non-profit, Golden Opportunities for Independence.
