NSF TRIPODS INSTITUTE

Brown's DSI has been awarded $1.5M to establish a data science research institute. The award is one of 12 nationwide Transdisciplinary Research in Principles of Data Science (TRIPODS) grants recently announced by the National Science Foundation. Brown's Institute will focus on the foundations of model-driven discovery from massive data.

Community Engagement

The Data Science Initiative supports broad engagement with the campus community. Through public lectures, panel discussions, boot camps, and other projects, we explore the challenges in translating data into knowledge and in understanding its impact.

Academic Programs

Brown’s Data Science Initiative offers academic and professional programs for a rigorous, distinctive, and innovative approach to learning and collaboration for anyone building a career in data-enabled fields.

DSI Launch Event

Empowering Collaboration / Expanding Networks

The DSI Launch Event brought the Brown and Providence communities together to network about data science in their research. Our keynote lecture was by Andrew Moore, Dean of the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.

Industry Partnerships

Our Industrial Partners give students and faculty the opportunity to work hands-on, addressing problems arising in industrial settings, while giving partners the chance to leverage cutting edge research and student creativity in their domains.
