The Philippine Health Initiative for Research, Service, and Training (PHIRST)

Research

The Philippine Health Initiative for Research, Service, and Training (PHIRST) was started to centralize efforts designed to improve the health and well being of Filipinos and Filipino-Americans at Brown University and academic partners.

Students and researchers at the School of Public Health, Global Health Initiative, and Alpert Medical School collaborate with academic institutions and community-based organizations to contribute to health in the US and in the Philippines. In addition to a variety of research activities, PHIRST also consists of training programs conducted both at Brown and in the Philippines. Don Operario, Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the School of Public Health, and Jennifer Nazareno, Assistant Professor of Public Health & Entrepreneurship, will serve as the faculty directors of the initiative.

PHIRST will host a variety of programs and events both on campus and in the Philippines.

Questions about PHIRST can be directed to jennifer_nazareno@brown.edu.
