Brown University, located in Providence, Rhode Island, has been a contributing member of PAATCHH since its naissance in 2011.
Brown University is a nexus for a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs relating to the study and practice of humanitarian aid and disaster intervention. For instance, Brown’s Alpert School of Medicine offers opportunities in global medicine, including via the Brown-Kenya Collaborative Medical Exchange Program in collaboration with Indiana Univeristy and Moi Univeristy in Kenya.
Brown is also home to the renowned Watson Institute for International Studies, the School of Engineering, as well as the newly created School of Public Health, both of which offer classes to undergraduates in addition to their esteemed graduate programs. Through Brown’s open curriculum, undergraduates are encouraged to follow their passions via a wide array of departments, many of which also offer additional graduate programs.
In the spring of 2013, Brown hosted the first annual Humanitarian Symposium, which brought speakers from across the nation and many of the 12 contributing PAATCHH institutions to present various research and perspectives on disaster response.
