Scott Shane is a reporter in the Washington bureau of the New York Times, where he has covered national security for a decade. His new book Objective Troy: A Terrorist, A President and the Rise of the Drone (Tim Duggan Books, 2015) tells the story of the U.S.-born radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki who was killed in a drone strike in Yemen in 2011 at the orders of President Obama. He has written on the debate over torture, WikiLeaks, and the National Security Agency, amongst other topics. A former Moscow correspondent, his first book, Dismantling Utopia (I.R. Dee, 1994) is a firsthand account of the Soviet collapse.
