The Brown IMSD Program congratulates Andrew G. Campbell, Brown University Dean of the Graduate School, Professor of Medical Science and IMSD Program Director on being elected AAAS Fellow.

Dr. Campbell was elected for research in infectious diseases in neglected populations, administrative leadership, and service to increase the full participation of all in science.

AAAS Fellows are elected each year by their peers serving on the Council of AAAS, the organization’s member-run governing body. The title recognizes important contributions to STEM disciplines, including pioneering research, leadership within a given field, teaching and mentoring, fostering collaborations, and advancing public understanding of science.

The tradition of electing AAAS Fellows began in 1874. Since then, the recognition has gone to thousands of distinguished scientists, such as inventor Thomas Edison, elected in 1878, sociologist W. E. B. Du Bois (1905), anthropologist Margaret Mead (1934), computer scientist Grace Hopper (1963), physicist Steven Chu (2000), and astronaut Ellen Ochoa (2012).

Congratulations Dr. Campbell!

Marcia Pescador Jimenez, Ph.D, has recently been appointed with a professorship at the Boston University School of Public Health.

Dr. Pescador Jimenez is an IMSD alumni who graduated in 2018 with a degree in epidemiology and has since completed a fellowship at the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health. She serves as a Diversity & Inclusion Committee Member at the Society for Epidemiological Research and continues to serve as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate public health students at Brown.

We were lucky to have Dr. Pescador Jimenez as a panelist at our recent IMSD Career Panel and are very excited to share her successes with our community.

Congratulations Professor Pescador Jimenez!
