The NIH has announced the Stephen I. Katz Early Stage Investigator Research Grant Program.

This new funding opportunity supports innovative projects that represent a change in research direction and for which no preliminary data exist.

Why the focus on no preliminary data? Well, this means that talented individuals can still seek NIH funding and pursue creative and innovative scientific hypotheses even though they lack the initial findings. Moreover, this should expand pathways and opportunities for those early in their career.

Two RFAs are available under the program: R01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed and R01 Basic Experimental Studies with Humans Required.
