Lack of sleep in many children a result of the coronavirus pandemic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Experts are concerned over the lack of sleep many children are experiencing due to the coronavirus pandemic, especially as we prepare for a new school year.

Daphne Koinismitchell, PHD, Clinical Psychologist associated with Hasbro and Brown University said researchers are seeing a link between COVID-related stress and sleep deprivation.

“We really don’t want to see a consistent delay in sleep for kids or a consistent deprivation of sleep because this may have longstanding effects on their daily functioning, attention, and academic functioning as well.”

Her advice is for parents to work with their kids now to solidify a routine, talk with them about their worries, help them get exercise and keep the time of using electronics limited.
