Higher education institutions are prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color or national origin (Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964) or gender (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972) in any program or activity of the University. The University is also prohibited from discriminating on the basis of disability (the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990), veteran status or age. The University has established the following policy on non-discrimination:

Brown University does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, age, disability, status as a veteran, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, or other school administered programs.

The University designates officers who are responsible for issues of compliance and will be available to answer questions and provide advice. Procedures have also been established should students allege a grievance. Resource persons are designated to receive information, answer questions regarding University procedures and provide assistance to students who believe they have been subjected to racial and/or sexual harassment by faculty, staff or other students. These designated individuals are also available to provide information regarding options of proceeding through informal means and/or formal means (by the filing of a formal written grievance with the unit/office responsible for handling the matter).

Sexual Harassment/Title IX Reporting Coordinators
