Being sick is always challenging and even more distressing when the illness is impacting class attendance and/or academic deadlines and exams.  Fortunately there is a process in place for students to alert the university by registering on the Flu Web.  We encourage students who are ill with influenza-like illness (fever 100o (38o C)) or above plus cough or sore throat) to register.

Once registered, a staff member from Student Support Services will send an email (usually within 24 hours) to review resources and to check in about possible needs such as: academic concerns, meals and health care.  Depending on a student’s concerns, we can arrange for a Dean’s Note to be sent to professors, identify a friend to pick up a food pack or encourage a student to schedule an appointment with Health Services.  If a student has not already contacted Health Services (either by phone or visit), the nursing staff will also follow-up with students who register on FluWeb to assist with health care needs.  Fortunately most students are on the mend rather quickly, and for those few who may experience a longer recovery period, Student Support Services will make every effort to provide assistance in determining an academic plan.

If a student becomes significantly worse before receiving outreach, they should call Health Services at 401.863.1330.
