Dr. Sara Becker Landmark Publication in Pediatrics

Congratulations to the Director of the New England ATTC, Dr. Sara Becker, on this landmark publication in Pediatrics "Brief Behavioral Interventions for Substance Use in Adolescents: A Meta-analysis."

Dr. Sara Becker, co-authored a meta-analysis on the efficacy of brief interventions for adolescent substance use which came out September 14th. The big picture summary is that brief motivational interviewing is effective for reducing adolescent drinking, but not adolescent marijuana use.

This publication was supported by funding from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and was part of a broader systematic review on interventions for adolescent substance use. Dr. Becker had the pleasure of being Scientific Lead, working with a team of expert methodologists who led the evidence synthesis. This first publication was released to Pediatrics September 14th - other pieces on non-brief interventions (like CBT, family therapy, etc) will be forthcoming.
