Dr. Sara Becker was a plenary speaker at the Rosecrance Health Network Inaugural Adolescent Behavioral Health Symposium

Sara Becker was a plenary speaker on March 6th at the Rosecrance Health Network Inaugural Adolescent Behavioral Health Symposium. She shared the results of her NIDA-funded study testing a technology-assisted parenting intervention for adolescents in residential substance use treatment.  Results indicated that the intervention was acceptable, feasible, and effective for parents of teens in short-term residential treatment.

Drs. Patricia Cioe and Suzanne Colby presented at the American Lung Association in Providence RI

Drs. Patricia Cioe and Suzanne Colby were invited to present a talk entitled, Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS): A Brief Review of Completed Research Studies, to the Community Advisory Board of the Brown School of Public Health. The meeting was held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the American Lung Association in Providence RI.

Dr. Ahluwalia received a 2020 Research Seed Award from Brown University

Dr. Jasjit Ahliwalia, is a Co-investigator and winner of a Brown University 2020 Seed Award on research which will focus on the effect of a driver's license suspension on access to health care. Learn more about the research work.

Dr. Gunn recently published a paper on Cannabis in the Addictive Behaviors journal

Dr. Rachel Gunn recently published a paper titled "Complex cannabis use patterns: Associations with cannabis consequences and cannabis use disorder symptomatology" in the journal Addictive Behaviors. This paper examined the evolving cannabis use landscape by using latent class analysis to classify cannabis users from three college campuses across the U.S.

Dr. Helseth was recently chosen for NIDA's Justice Community Opioid Intervention Network (JCOIN)!

Congratulations to Dr. Sarah Helseth on being chosen for NIDA's Justice Community Opioid Intervention Network (JCOIN) 2020-2022 Investigators Program! This capacity building initiative trains and mentors researches to better address health problems in criminal justice populations.

Dr. Mollie Monnig gave an invited presentation on "Microbial Translocation and Innate Immune Markers following Moderate Alcohol in Healthy Volunteers" at the first annual Rhode Island Microbiome Symposium at the University of Rhode Island.

Dr. van den Berg presented at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences

Dr. Jacob van den Berg gave an oral presentation on January 9, 2020 entitled: "Social media use and prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections among at-risk college students in the United States" at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences in Maui, Hawaii.

Dr. Anthony Spirito, together with co-investigators Drs. Anashua Rani Ghose Elwy and Kathleen Kemp of Brown Research, and Drs. Sarah Helseth and Sara Becker of CAAS,  presented at the NIH HEAL Initiative on parents’ and teens’ knowledge, opinions, and safety skills around opioid use.
