Dr. Tidey was a Discussant at the NIH Tobacco Regulatory Science symposium

Dr. Jennifer Tidey was the Discussant for a symposium entitled "Potential Impact of Nicotine Standards Policy" at the NIH Tobacco Regulatory Science meeting on Oct 23rd.

Dr. Jennifer Tidey also gave an invited talk at the annual meeting of the Vermont Center of Behavioral Health on Oct 11, entitled "Effects of Very Low Nicotine Content Cigarettes in People with Psychiatric Disorders".

Drs. Peter Monti, Kate Carey, and Sara Becker presented at an NIAAA-sponsored workshop.

Drs. Peter Monti, Kate Carey, and Sara Becker were invited to participate in an NIAAA-sponsored workshop on Brief Alcohol Interventions for College and Young Adults on October 10-11th. The goal of this workshop was to build upon the existing evidence base and address key areas that will advance the field including implementation and scale up. 

Dr. Sara Becker presented at the Addiction Health Services Research conference!

Dr. Sara Becker gave two presentations at the Addiction Health Services Research 2019 Conference. She presented a poster on the work of the New England ATTC and gave a talk about Project MIMIC, her multi-site R01 with opioid treatment programs throughout New England. Sara is on the National Planning Committee and is excited to host next year's conference in Providence!

Jennifer Merrill

Dr. Merrill presented on "Heavy Drinking" in Toronto, and Sherbrooke, Canada

Dr. Jennifer Merrill presented a talk titled "Qualitative Examination of Recent Alcohol-Induced Blackouts among Heavy Drinking Emerging Adults" at the 9th annual meeting for the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood in Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Cioe received notification of publication acceptance

Dr. Patricia Cioe and CAAS colleagues were notified that A PILOT STUDY TO EXAMINE THE ACCEPTABILITY AND HEALTH EFFECTS OF ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES IN HIV-POSITIVE SMOKERS has been accepted for publication in Drug and Alcohol Dependence. This is the first study to examine the use of electronic cigarettes as a method of harm reduction in HIV-positive smokers who are unable or unwilling to quit smoking.

Dr. Rosemarie Martin presented twice at the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons in KY in September, 2019.

Drs. Barnett and Jackson received a grant

Drs. Nancy Barnett and Kristina Jackson received a grant titled "Ecological assessment of social network contacts in drinking contexts: Peer proximity detection using wearable sensors." This grant will develop and evaluate the technology for using Bluetooth sensors and Smartphones to detect high-risk situations in which peers are drinking alcohol together.

Dr. Carpenter published an article in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology

Dr. Ryan Carpenter had an article titled, "Concurrent and lagged associations of prescription opioid use with pain and negative affect in the daily lives of chronic pain patients," published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology as part of a special issue on the opioid crisis. In the study, chronic pain patients reported on their prescription opioid use, pain, and negative affect throughout the day.
