Biography

Orestis Panagiotou is a physician-scientist with experience in evidence-based medicine, clinical epidemiology, and research methodology. He received his MD and PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Ioannina in Greece and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. 

His research interests include comparative effectiveness and safety research and risk prediction, particularly in the context of routinely-collected health data. To this end, Orestis works on both applied and methodological problems in the following research areas:

  • delivery of cancer care and outcomes thereof across the cancer continuum from screening to treatment
  • quality of care with an emphasis on low-value care 
  • evidence synthesis, meta-analysis, and replicability of clinical trials
  • computational health services research
