UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC) and Mindfulness Center at Brown University School of Public Health In Collaboration

Dear friends and colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Memorial Health Care and the Mindfulness Center at Brown University have entered into a collaboration. Our primary goal is to better serve society through high quality Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) education. Forty years ago Jon Kabat-Zinn developed and began offering MBSR. Decades later, research shows beneficial effects on health outcomes such as pain, anxiety symptoms, depression and stress. Indeed as a result, MBSR has spread across the world. Our collaboration intends to:

  • Offer a single cooperative MBSR teacher training program, with a transition pathway for current MBSR teachers in training from UMMHC to the Mindfulness Center at Brown.
  • Continue to provide local and global access to outstanding quality MBSR courses and mentors.
  • Offer opportunities for communication and healing that strengthen our communities, our commitment to integrity, and ability to support continued growth of the mindfulness field.¬†

Please stay tuned as we further develop this shared initiative to serve society with a major focus on evidence-based MBSR programs and teacher training.
