Mindfulness – the capacity to be fully present in the moment, with clear perspective, thought and intention, strengthens the ability of leaders and the workforce to be healthy, engaged and operating at optimal potential. An article in the Harvard Business Review concludes that
“Mindfulness should no longer be considered a “nice-to-have” for executives. It’s a “must-have”: a way to keep our brains healthy, to support self-regulation and effective decision-making capabilities, and to protect ourselves from toxic stress.”
Similarly, the 2017 Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being issued a report recommending mindfulness training as it can enhance a host of competencies related to effectiveness, including increased focus and concentration, working memory, critical cognitive skills, reduced burnout, and ethical and rational decision-making. The task force went so far as to state that well-being itself is an indispensable part of professional competence.
