Export Control Training & Information Sessions
Navigating Export Controls regulations can be very complex and determining if and when your activity or research may require an export license is not easy. Brown University offers a variety of training and educational tools to help faculty, students and staff to navigate export control regulations within the university environment.

One-One Training: Brown’s ORI provides one-one consultations and trainings for faculty, students and staff. Please email [email protected] to schedule a meeting.

Online: Brown offers online export control training via Brown’s TrainCaster system. The following modules are available to the Brown community:

Export Control Annual Re-Training (Users must have access to TrainCaster to complete the training. Please contact [email protected]).

Group Trainings and Brown Bags: ORI offers a regular Brown Bag series on export control regulations and related topics. Please see below for a list of upcoming Brown Bags. The U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has created on-line training modules covering export controls, deemed exports, performing export control classifications, license exceptions, and anti-boycott regulations. The training modules are broken up into short video segments that provide general information on the essentials of export control in a very accessible and user-friendly format. In 2004, the Council on Government Relations (COGR) created the brochure “Export Controls and Universities: Information and Case Studies.” The brochure provides general information regarding export controls and their impact on academic research. Included in the brochure are a number of case studies that represent potential situations encountered by universities.
