The Digital Society Initiative seeks to leverage the Brown culture, scale and interdisciplinary strengths from core computational disciplines to humanities and arts to impact all fields and areas of society and inevitably transform the culture and practice of research and education to meet demands of a digital world. Driven largely by innovations in technology and human inventiveness, we are increasingly collecting and generating data of unimaginable size and complexity.
This shift toward a data driven society presents fundamental challenges and exciting opportunities for universities and its partners. The initiative will build strong partnerships with industrial, educational, and government institutions to ensure access to complex data and computational resources to translate data-rich environment into discovery and innovation eco-system that will address our most complex global challenges in areas of health, environment, security and energy.
