Faculty

Baylor Fox-Kemper
I study the physics of the ocean and how the ocean processes affect the past, present and future of the Earth's climate system. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences.
Tim Herbert
My research centers on understanding how the earth's climatic system, particularly the ocean, adjusts itself to perturbation on various timescales. I am a Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences.

Jung-Eun Lee
I study the physics of water and water cycling through the living biosphere of the planet. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences.

Amanda Lynch
I study extreme weather and climate in the Arctic. I also research climate adaptation policy in collaboration with Indigenous communities. I am a Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences.

Jim Russell

I use late Neogene lake sediments to investigate millennial to decadal-scale climate changes, focusing on tropical Africa and Indonesia. I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences.

Siri Veland
My research explores narratives, discourses and scales that shape decision-making processes, and builds strongly on policy sciences, political ecology and Indigenous research in Australia. I am a Research Assistant Professor in IBES.

Research Scientists and Post-Doctoral Fellows

Todd Arbetter
I study sea ice physics and dynamics using in situ buoy data, satellite imagery and modeling. I am also the staff research programmer for the ClimateLab.

Sarah Ivory
I study vegetation controls on quaternary weathering intensity in southeast Africa

Brodie Pearson
I work on subgrid closures for mesoscale-permitting ocean models, i.e., Mesoscale Ocean Large Eddy Simulations (MOLES).
Nobuhiro Suzuki
I am working to improve the physical underpinnings of the treatment of waves in the ocean components of global climate models.
Siri Veland
My research explores narratives, discourses and scales that shape decision-making processes, and builds strongly on policy sciences, political ecology and Indigenous research in Australia.
Xi Yang
I am interested in taking an interdisciplinary approach using remote sensing, terrestrial ecosystem ecology and climate physics to understand changes in plant behavior and carbon cycling.

Graduate Students

Zac Bischoff-Mattson
My interest is environmental governance, and my research focus is water policy in the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia.  My work emphasizes the interlinked social-ecological complexities of decision making in this dynamic and contested system.
Abigail Bodner
I work with Prof. Baylor Fox-Kemper.
Samantha Bova
I work with Prof. Tim Herbert.
Rocio Cabbellero-Gill
I study the response of the subtropical front and surrounding water masses to glacial-interglacial fluctuations during the Pliocene Epoch in the Southwest Pacific.
Will Daniels
I use a combination of paleo- and neolimnology to study changing climate and global biogeochemistry.
Chris Kelly
I work with Prof. Tim Herbert.

I am studying the impacts of wave-driven mixing of the ocean surface boundary layer on climate.
Rachel Lupien
I work with Prof. Jim Russell.
