Welcome to the Coulombe Lab

The overarching goal of the Coulombe Lab is to re-engineer contractility of the heart after injury or disease.  We use technologies in tissue engineering, biomaterials, muscle mechanics, and imaging to understand growth and maturation of human pluripotent stem cell-derived heart muscle cells (cardiomyocytes), cell-matrix interactions in 3D heart tissue, mechanical properties of engineered cardiac scaffolds and tissues, the process of new vessel growth, and whole heart contractility after implantation of engineered tissues.  

Our long-term goal is to develop functional human myocardium as a new theapy for regenerating the injured heart.
