Research Profile

Suzanne Colby, Ph.D. is a Professor (Research) of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University. She has been a researcher at Brown’s Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies for 25 years. Dr. Colby is interested in how addiction to nicotine develops over time, so a lot of her research has focused on smoking in adolescents and young adults. She also works to develop and test different kinds of interventions for smokers. Her research has been funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

Dr. Colby is a lifelong Rhode Islander. She graduated from East Providence High School, Providence College, and the University of Rhode Island before coming to Brown.

In warmer weather, she likes to sail and go to the beach. In winter, she enjoys hiking, sledding, and snowshoeing.
