Treatment of Withdrawal from Opiates in Newborn Infants
What is the BABY Study? Women & Infants Hospital is participating in the first multicenter, clinical trial to establish the best treatment for newborns born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). This study, called the BABY Study, is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded clinical trial aimed at improving the outcomes for babies born with NAS. With your help, we want to determine which is the best treatment for babies, how that treatment affects the baby's short-term and long-term development, and if genetics plays a role in NAS signs and symptoms.
You may be eligible to participate if you:
- Deliver after at least 37 weeks of pregnancy
- Received methadone, buprenorphine or another daily pain medication from a licensed physician or drug treatment program during pregnancy
- Received adequate prenatal care
