The Brown University SRP Research Translation Core cosponsored a “Vapor Intrusion (VI) Workshop” with the Northeast Waste Management Officials’ Association in Providence, RI on 9/26/13 and in Westford, MA on 9/27/13. There were 65 participants in Providence and 120 participants in Westford. Participants represented regional environmental state agencies, EPA, and regional environmental consultants. Professors Kelly Pennell and Eric Suuberg presented a general overview of VI. US EPA staff scientist Henry Schuver spoke about the burden of proof related to VI. There was a panel discussion with representatives from regional state environmental regulatory agencies. Lastly, Prof Eric Suuberg and COMSOL engineer Ahsan Munir introduced Brown’s 3-Dimentional VI computer model. This last presentation included an introduction to the software platform and modeling equations, and also a sampling of results and lessons learned from Brown’s work.
