Invited to share her expertise on PFAs, Jennifer Guelfo spoke at the Central New York Association of Professional Geologists’s symposium on High Resolution Site Investigation and Emerging Contaminants on October 7. Dr. Guelfo’s presentation gave an overview of the chemistry, sources, fate/transport, and remediation of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwater. The audience included regulators, analytical laboratories, and practitioners from the region some of whom are managing issues related to PFAS impacts in drinking water. Regionally impacted communities include Hoosick Falls, NY which has recently had to implement water use restrictions and targeted treatment technologies to address elevated levels of PFAS in drinking water.
