Matthew Casey (Phd, University of Pittsburgh; BA University of Texas) is Nina Bell Suggs Professor of History at the University of Southern Mississippi. He is the author of Empire’s Guest Workers: Haitian Migrants in Cuba during the Age of US Occupation (Cambridge University Press, 2017), which demonstrates how migrants’ daily activities shaped imperial policies, economic realities, religious practices and ideas of race in both Haiti and Cuba. In 2012, he was co-winner of the Andrés Ramos Mattei-Neville Hall article prize from the Association of Caribbean Historians.
