Beyond ‘Listening’ to the Student Voice: UG Research Contributions to Teaching & Learning

Sheridan Center for Teaching & Learning

The Undergraduate Learning and Teaching Research Internship Scheme (ULTRIS) at The University of Western Australia (UWA) is an award-winning innovative undergraduate research program that introduces students to authentic research outside their chosen discipline. By focusing their research on a teaching and learning issue of identified priority for the University, students made significant contributions to the understanding of the problem and provided insights to inform future changes in policy and practice. Beyond the benefits to the institution and the individual students, this model of undergraduate research heralds an opportunity for research into teaching and learning to gain acceptance and interest amongst a new and previously uninvolved cohort of investigators. Professor Partridge will describe the idiosyncrasies of ULTRIS, outline its short but productive history and examine its successes (both for the participating students and the institution) and the challenges it has faced. Please RSVP, catered lunch provided. Please contact [email protected] at the Sheridan Center with any dietary restrictions at least 48 hours prior to the event.
