Water

Brown is committed to preserving water resources in the Ocean State.

With a campus abutting main waterways and located in the “Ocean State,” Brown University is situated comfortably close to essential water sources. That also means that Brown has a responsibility to conserve water and protect waterways, particularly as a changing climate creates uncertainty in future precipitation patterns.

Brown's water program works to identify and implement opportunities to reduce water use on campus and to mitigate stormwater runoff, a major source of waterway pollution.

The University incorporates water efficiency evaluation in all major renovations and new construction to ensure a conservative and fiscally responsible use of water resources. Additionally, the Office of Sustainability and Operations monitor and address area of water waste and inefficiency.
