Access for Researchers

The Carnegie Management Team is committed to making the Carnegie CE Dataset accessible to all qualified researchers in the spirit of full participation. The team is aware of the burden of data access and the costs associated with securing datasets in the higher education field that creates barriers to entry, particularly for graduate students. Hence, there are no costs associated with accessing the Carnegie CE Dataset and we particularly encourage graduate students and junior scholars to use this and other datasets we offer through the College and University Engagement Initiative.

We are equally committed to protecting the identity of institutions that opted to be part of our dataset. The following process to request and gain access to data was built to ensure confidentiality and proper handling of this dataset, and the sharing of the research outcomes with the field.

Please follow the following process to request access:

  • Please complete this data request form to provide us with more information about your research and data that would support it.
  • After you have submitted this form, a member of the research team at the Swearer Center will get in touch with you with any questions or clarifications regarding your request.
  • Once your request has been processed, and if it is within our data sharing guidelines, you will receive a data-sharing agreement that you will be asked to sign. This is to protect the data confidentiality and ensure that you will not reveal the identity of any of the institutions of higher education that are included in the data without receiving their consent.
  • Finally, in granting use of our data, we will ask that you provide information regarding dissemination of your research (conference presentations, proceedings, or publications) so that it can be listed on our website and shared with colleagues in the field.

  • Please note that you will be receiving data only for those institutions of higher education that have provided consent to use their data for research purposes.
