Primary serous carcinoma (psammocarcinoma)

 

 

This peritoneal tumor is from a 37-year-old female with a history of Stage 3A primary peritoneal carcinoma

diagnosed 6 years previously. Serous carcinoma is a high-grade tumor that usually behaves aggressively. 

However, psammocarcinoma, this type of serous carcinoma, is the one variant that is considered low-grade

and patients generally do very well. Note the numerous psammoma bodies in the photos.
