Posterior urethral valve

This is an anterior view of a longitudinally opened bladder and urethra. There is a posterior valve in the prostatic urethra designated

by a probe. As a result of obstruction the degree of renal abnormality varies from lethal cystic-dysplasia to hydronephrosis. The

bladder neck is hypertrophied and elongated and the bladder is distended, trabeculated and thick-walled in these cases.
