FRIENDS HELP BUILD TOMORROW'S LIBRARY

The Library plays a vital role in scholarship and learning. Although it is providing resources crucial to the researchers of today, it is, just as importantly, building the foundation for the scholarship of tomorrow. The Friends of the Library (FOL) was established in 1938 to support the growth of the Library. The group brings together town and gown, book lovers and collectors, and all those dedicated to the development of one of the nation's major research libraries. With the help of the FOL, the Library has continued to respond to the challenges of a dynamic curriculum, the demands of scholarship, and the opportunities created by new technologies. Over more than six decades, the generosity of the Friends has helped in the purchase of books and other research materials, as well as providing support for lectures, exhibitions, and publications. Today, more than ever, the Library needs the sustenance of friends, old and new.

You can become a part of this important mission by joining the Friends. As a member, you will be invited to a variety of lectures, exhibitions, and receptions. You also receive the newsletter, Among Friends, which will keep you up-to-date on the latest happenings at the Library (See the two listings on the next page.). In addition, access and borrowing privileges are available at certain contribution levels. The form on this page, which you can copy or cut out, explains the membership categories. Just fill it out and mail it with your check made out to Brown University. We will send you a welcome letter with more details about your membership. Please contact Christy_Law_Blanchard@brown.edu or 863-1518 for more information.
