Daniel Jordan Smith, an anthropologist and Associate Director of PSTC, recently led the Nigeria component of a major NIH-supported five-country comparative ethnographic study entitled “Love, Marriage and HIV,” which found that sex within marriage represents women’s single greatest risk factor for HIV infections. Smith and his colleagues plan to extend this work into new lines of inquiry that explore how antiretroviral therapy changes the life courses of HIV-positive people.
