Use Opinion: Why Harvard is so hard to lead It’s not mostly about personalities. Campus governance has changed in recent years because universities have changed so drastically. Today as never before, university leaders must diagnose and confront areas of chronic conflict that have emerged with the following three major trends: 1) the rise of science and technology has led to far greater inequality among disciplines; 2) entrepreneurship and new funding sources have led to a more decentralized, less cohesive university; 3) individual mobility strengthens the hand of powerful campus members and requires greater transparency in decision-making. Report examines student drinking A report released by an ad hoc committee of University officials and students suggests ways to curtail student alcohol abuse before attend social events. The committee “endorses changing campus culture so that it becomes an expectation of students that they will be denied entry to events if they are intoxicated or under the influence of any controlled substances."
