Professor of Neuroscience John Donoghue was one of dozens of speakers at an epilepsy meeting held this week at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, Md. Donoghue is testing a way to detect seizures by placing into the brains of patients electrodes that can sense a seizure in the making.

Les Roberts, one of the authors of a controversial report on Iraqi war deaths, will speak at Brown University Wednesday night. Roberts was one of a team of scientists from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Al Mustansiriya University, in Baghdad, to conduct an independent estimate of the loss of civilian life during the Iraqi war. It pegged the war-related civilian death toll at 655,000.
