2000-2001 Executive Summary

Intrinsic Systems is the direct result of an academic experiment in entrepreneurship.  This experiment, a joint venture by Brown University and The Foxboro Company, presented students with the opportunity of crafting an independent business in the field of hi-tech.  With little more than a seed idea, the students set off to explore new markets and ideas, quickly transcending the boundaries of the classroom and entering the ‘real’ world of business.  After only six months, Intrinsic Systems was formed.

Intrinsic Systems’ mission is to (i) provide innovative technological solutions to allow the safe and reliable implementation of wireless technology as an integral part of plant automation systems, (ii) enhance plant safety, efficiency, and productivity through wireless-automation, and (iii) introduce added value features for automation systems.

Intrinsic Systems aims to achieve this mission through an initial partnership with The Foxboro Company, which will use Foxboro’s wide customer base, and proven expertise in automation technology, as leverage for Intrinsic’s wireless-automation technology.  This, in turn, will provide Foxboro with a comprehensive wireless solution for the I/A series while significantly reducing R&D and manufacturing costs.

The company’s product line will incorporate both hardware and software applications designed to offer a total solution.  The hardware division will be geared towards providing rugged and durable mobile computing platforms suitable for work in harsh plant environments.  It, therefore, will offer a unique line of high-impact casings especially designed to fit Fujitsu pen-based computer tablets.  Simultaneously, Intrinsic Systems’ software division will offer the Real Time Control software suite, an incorporation of three wireless-specific applications designed to allow the full integration of wireless technology in automation systems, while emphasizing safety, reliability, and efficiency.  While the RTC software suite is designed as an I/A series specific application, Intrinsic Solutions’ hardware division will be targeting additional markets as well.

Wireless technology is no longer the future of automation systems; it is the present!  Therefore, we at Intrinsic Systems believe that a Foxboro-Intrinsic partnership is the best way to place wireless automation at the fore, swiftly and successfully.
