When Pinocchio tries to warm himself by the fire after he has water thrown on him in Chapter VI, his feet burn off. Collodi writes:

“While he slept his feet, which were made of wood, caught fire and little by little burned and turned to ashes. But Pinocchio went on sleeping and snoring as though his feet belonged to someone else.”

This leads the reader to wonder whether or not the puppet has feeling in this feet. Collodi describes the situation as if the puppet should feel his own feet, whereas the reader could be forgiven for assuming that a puppet would have no feeling in his feet.Yet, if the puppet can use his feet to run away from Geppetto, why is he unable feel them burn off?

Also, when he is hanged, Pinocchio not only survives, he does not complain about the pain of the noose.

And yet, Pinocchio is able to feel emotional pain.
