Pinocchio proves to be immortal, since when Chapter XVI begins, Pinocchio is still alive after Fox and Cat have hanged him. Even if Collodi had intented for Pinocchio to die at the end of Chapter XV, it still takes him a very long time to be strangled:

“[Fox and Cat] settled down on the grass, waiting for the puppet to kick his last; but after three hours the puppet had his eyes open, his mouth shut, and he was kicking harder than ever.”
