ARCH1900 The Archaeology of College Hill: a class with Krysta Ryzewski (office, RI Hall 212 - office hours TBA, but walk-ins always welcome!), and teaching assistant: Alex Knodell.
An introduction to the practice and process of archaeological fieldwork. Topics include the nature of field archaeology, excavation and survey methodologies, archaeological ethics, heritage management, computer technologies (such as GIS), and site and artifact analysis and conservation. Students will act as practicing archaeologists through the investigation of local historical and archaeological sites in the College Hill area (e.g. the John Brown House). This class is limited enrolment. Space will be allocated by seniority and concentration if enrolment capacity is exceeded.
M 3:00–5:20. (mandatory section - time TBA on first day of class).
Please note: On September 14 only, the class will meet briefly in Wilson 305 before going directly into the field (rain or shine)! Future classes will meet at the John Brown House at 52 Power St. Weekly sections will meet in Rhode Island Hall, Room TBA. Please come prepared on the first day of class to work outside.
