Choose 3 diagnostic objects to discuss in detail. Diagnostic objects are those whose manufacture, function, shape, origin, or age can be determined, or at least estimated based on available clues, such as decoration, embossed lettering, maker’s mark, etc. The objects can be similar types (e.g. ceramics), from the same Unit, or they can be completely different types from a variety of units.

Produce a written object biography report that presents the three objects in detail. In this write-up first describe the object in detail. Make a good effort to determine its age, function, dimensions, production method, material, etc. Then examine the objects in the context of their strata and in relation to the other finds from that context and Unit. Next, create an interpretation based on this evidence and other historical evidence about the site. You should include citations from relevant or influential readings from the semester that you draw on to conduct interpretations. Your interpretations can be creative, interactive, and non-conventional. You should include photographs of the objects, and may include drawings as well, if you like.
