Summary of JBH Unit 13:
This is the panel from Unit 13 from the Middle Shelf of the Joukowsky Institute exhibit. In the past, Units 2 and 10 were excavatated along Charlesfield Street. Through remote sensing, they found a large anomaly of where the Robert Hale Ives House once was located. Though these two units did not find any walls, as they had hoped to find foundation walls, they still managed to find interesting things. So this year, the team took the initiative to begin a new unit, 13, measuring as 2x2m. With the help of geophysical maps, they located Unit 13 between the past excavations from Unit 2 and Unit 10, along a straight line.
By the end of semester, the team from Unit 13 found a linear feature that separated two different contexts. However, as they proceeded with their investigations, they believe that the linear feature could be just a product of their excavation methods instead of being a feature.

These two pictures demonstrate the progression and work done by Unit 13. The one on the left is how the Unit looked as they began in September 12, 2011. The picture on the right was taken on November 21, 2011, and this shows the end result of their excavation work. Through this picture, we can see a possible linear feature and the change of soil on either side of the feature, forming new contexts.
Unit 13 working hard! These two pictures captures the excavators of Unit 13 at work. The picture on the left shows from left to right: Kaitlin East and Valerie Bondura, both using trowels to deposit dirt. The picture on the right is (from left to right) Nicholas Sinnott-Armstrong and Jessica Nowlin, who was the instructor of "Archaeology of College Hill", using the total station. The total station helped the class survey the site and gather measurements.

For more information of each artifact please read the object biographies done by the excavators of Unit 13, where each student was assigned to chose two artifacts to research upon. The artifacts were chosen for display due to its uniqueness and interest to the excavators of Unit 13.
