I continued to dig in QG1 today. We continued the previous dig day's context, which comprised of very rocky soil which was difficult to dig. As we went further down, I noticed the number of material culture we were finding had decreased noticeably; it was exciting to find even a single glass shard where in earlier contexts we were finding lots and lots. That made me wonder how we can determine when we've reached virgin soil. What if there's just a large deposit of empty soil but beneath that there is still more to be found? In any case, the days are getting shorter so we won't be able to dig much further down before we have to wrap up for the year. We did dig quite deep today because we were just trying to get to the next context (which might contain more artifacts).
