Notion in Ionia is a well-preserved and almost completely unexcavated ancient city, which was occupied from the early first millennium B.C. until the Middle Ages. A program of systematic archaeological investigation of the site begun in 2014 will lay the groundwork for the conservation and management of the site. This project is a joint endeavor of the University of Michigan and Brown University.
The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World promotes the investigation, understanding, and enjoyment of the archaeology and art of the ancient Mediterranean, Egypt, and the Near East. We work in close collaboration with our colleagues in Brown University's Department of Anthropology whose research is focused on the study of the material remains of the ancient, historic, and modern Americas.
