This is your second writing project on places of healing. In this essay, I would like each of you to focus on/tackle one of the conceptual issues that we have been discussing since the beginning of the semester, and address them in a theoretically informed way. Feel free to use the readings we have done in this class and/or read further on the topic.

• Place and space
• Political ecology
• Body and bodily experience, bodily healing, embodiment
• Local/indigenous knowledge
• Dreamtime and dreamscapes, the role of dreams in the making of places, practices of healing
• Miracles and miraculous healing
• Pilgrimage

I would like each of you to elect a case study for a place of healing in consultation with me- and the paper should focus on using the conceptual issues of your choice creatively and effectively in discussing your case study. This is going to be a library research based paper and it indends to help you develop skills of putting together theories and case studies in a productive relationship. You are welcome to use the same place of healing that you worked on in your first assignment or work on a new one. However most important is making sure that there is sufficient amount of scholarly literature produced about the place you have chosen.

The product should be a 6-8 page essay (double spaced, 12 Times font with appropriate margins). Your paper may be accompanied by visual material again such as photographs, videos, drawings, field sketches and the like. Unlike the first assignment where creative forms of writing was encouraged, I would like you to focus on the language and style of a research paper. You must include a bibliography/list of references. For consistency, I will ask you to follow Author-Date style referencing (you will get guidance on this).

• Josiah: Brown Libraries Search Engine
• InRhode and Borrow Direct- These are circulation networks among East coast universities that Brown participates. Go to these, esp. Borrow Direct, to request books if you can't find it in Josiah or Brown libraries.
• Interlibrary Loan- Especially useful to request articles but also books that are not covered by Borrow Direct network.
• J-Stor- An amazing online database for scholarly publications in Humanities and Social Sciences. You need to be on campus or connected to the campus network by proxyto use this link.
• Worldcat- search engine linked to an Easy Borrow system but I never managed to get work. But worldcat is great to do general searches.
• Google Scholar (Stand on the shoulders of giants!) and Google Books. They speak for themselves.
