Missionary priests published manuals for many of the major Andean languages to aid future evangelization, supplying resources for parish priests. This book, by the Catalan Jesuit Andres Febrés, includes a Mapuche arte (grammar) along with a collection of model sermons, prayers, confession manual, catechism, and a “very curious Chilean-Spanish dialogue” to aid the language student. Mapuche, an indigenous language of Chile, is still widely spoken today.
