Welcome to " Remember Haiti," a site showcasing a selection of books from the John Carter Brown Library that are available online through the Internet Archive. Created with the support of partners from around the world, the intent of this library is to provide access to the remarkable history of Haiti, a nation with an extraordinarily rich heritage, despite its well-known challenges. The project was made possible through the generosity of David Rumsey, a board member of the John Carter Brown Library. The recent earthquake of January 12, 2010, has only deepened the need to raise awareness of Haiti’s story, and to increase access to the rare books and maps that tell it. Happily, the remarkable strides in digital technology have increased our ability to make nearly perfect reproductions of Haiti's rare books and maps and to distribute them freely to a global audience.
Bienvenu à “Se souvenir d’Haïti”, un site présentant une sélection de livres de la John Carter Brown Library, mis en ligne sur Internet Archive, avec l'appui de ses partenaires à travers le monde. L'objectif de cette bibliothéque numérique est de rendre accessible son fonds sur l'histoire remarquable d'Haïti, une nation d'un héritage hors du commun, malgré les défis et les difficultés du quotidien. Le projet a pu se concrétiser grâce la générosité de David Rumsey, membre du conseil d'administration de John Carter Brown Library. Le tremblement de terre du 12 janvier 2010 n’a fait qu’accroître la nécessité de prendre conscience de l’histoire d’Haïti, et d’étendre l’accès aux cartes et ouvrages rares qui l’expriment. Heureusement, les formidables progrès de la numérisation documentaire ont augmenté notre capacité à reproduire presqu’à la perfection nos trésors et à les mettre gratuitement à la disposition d’une audience planétaire.
