Bronchial pattern in situs inversus
In this case there is an eparterial bronchus arising from the left main bronchus; none from the right. What other abnormality is present in this cAase? It involves the right lung.
Under the section labelled normal histology on this website see the normal bronchial pattern. In this case of situs inversus there is a mirror image of the normal pattern. In some cases of heterotaxy such as polysplenia-asplenia one encounters left or right bronchial isomerism in which both bronchi have the pattern of the right or left bronchus. The answer to the question about another abnormality in this case is that there is pulmonary hypoplasia, especially of the right lung. In this case pulmonary hypoplasia was secondary to congenital right diaphragmatic hernia
